In a dry location away from rodents and moisture. Make sure the tent is completely dry before storing for a long period of time.

When packing down your air tent, ensure that the majority of the air has dispersed before folding and rolling the tent up. Fold it toward the valves. This will allow most of the air to be removed and help the tent pack down small enough to fit in the bag. Additionally, when camping in hot temperatures, reduce the air pressure inside the air tubes, as heat can cause the air tubes to expand. This precaution works to mitigate the potential for air tubes to pop.

For stains, you can try using warm water with a light detergent and a soft bristle brush. Avoid using other chemical cleaners or bleach, as they will remove the pre-existing protectants. For mold, you can use Wet and Forget Mold Remover, but the affected area of the tent will also need an application of tent waterproofing.

Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarProof increases fabric strength and protects against UV deterioration.

A tent fly is recommended to protect the tent. Additionally, you can use Nikwax Cotton Proof or Dyna Proof. Dynaproof is an excellent water-based proofing treatment and mildew repellent for canvas. Canvas tents should be re-waterproofed every 5-6 years to maintain their weather-tightness, which helps extend the life of your tent. You can also perform the waterproofing yourself..

Choosing the right tent for your camping needs involves considering various factors tailored to your specific requirements. These include the number of campers, the terrain you'll be camping on, expected weather conditions, and the level of comfort and convenience you desire. Additionally, evaluating features such as tent capacity, seasonality (three-season vs. four-season tents), setup complexity, weight, and budget will help you make an informed decision that aligns perfectly with your camping adventures.

Managing condensation is crucial for a comfortable camping experience. To minimize moisture accumulation inside your tent, ensure adequate ventilation by partially unzipping windows and vents. Check out our Kiwi Camping condensation guide here.

Single-wall tents offer simplicity and reduced weight since they combine the tent body and rainfly into a single layer. On the other hand, double-wall tents, with separate inner tent bodies and rainflies, provide improved ventilation and condensation control. Most of our Kiwi Camping tents are double-walled, with an inner and fly.

Touring FAQS

Our Tuatara Roof Tents are designed to fit a wide range of vehicles, each with the appropriate dynamic weight rating. Please review the product dimensions and weight specifications to determine if a model is suitable for your vehicle before making a purchase.

To mount your Rooftop Tent, ensure you have a roof rack system suitable for your vehicle with a dynamic load rating of 75kg or higher.

This depends on the style of canopy your Ute has. These must be appropriately weight rated or reinforced to hold the weight of the tent and people inside.

All our roof tents have been designed with an easy-to-use mounting system which makes for a fast and easy setup or removal. The Rooftop Tents weigh between 50 and 78kg therefore we recommend having the help of another person to make the lifting process easier.

Our Tuatara Rooftop Tents offer flexible positioning to accommodate your vehicle and personal preferences. However, we highly recommend the following:

For larger vehicles, such as SUVs, positioning our Crest and Summit Extended models off the back provides weather coverage and easy access to your vehicle's boot.
If your vehicle's boot opens upward and extends above the roofline, we suggest installing the tent to open off the side.
For smaller vehicles, it's best to have the Crest & Summit Extended models open off the side to ensure the tent remains within the roofline dimensions.
Positioning the tent to open from the side also facilitates gear storage on your roof rack and allows normal operation of upwards opening boots.

Our Plateau model features an aerodynamically shaped hard shell designed to open onto the driver’s side. While it can be positioned on the passenger side, this may impact aerodynamics and result in wind noise.

We advise utilizing a roof rack system that employs either a permanent mount or a rail clamping design. A permanent mount roof rack evenly distributes weight across your vehicle's roof, avoiding additional strain or stress. Conversely, a door/roof clamping roof rack concentrates stress on specific areas of your vehicle due to its limited surface area. On all our Rooftop Tents, we recommend having a roof rack that can support a dynamic weight rating of 75kg or higher.

For all our Rooftop Tents, we recommend a distance between 800mm and 1200mm, with the ideal distance being 1000mm.

If you're positioning your Rooftop Tent at the back of your vehicle, we suggest having roof racks spaced between 800mm and 1000mm apart, with the most optimal distance being 900mm. This distance is adjustable to accommodate your specific requirements.

The dynamic weight rating is the maximum weight/load your roof racks can handle while moving.

After spending many years in hot and stuffy tents we developed a system to help and reduce the internal temperature of our tents. We use a blackout PU fly on all our rooftop tents that have a fly! This reduces the internal temperature of the tent and keeps it nice and dark inside, which allows you to sleep in longer after your epic adventures.

All our Kiwi Camping Rooftop Tents have undergone rigorous testing over several years in some of New Zealand's harshest conditions. Each tent is equipped with exterior windows that can be securely zipped up to prevent water ingress. The adjustable fly can be tightened to minimize noise during high wind gusts. Our Plateau and Summit Extended models boast weather shield systems, featuring a curved frame design that optimizes airflow, reduces condensation, and facilitates water runoff. Additionally, all models include our two-in-one zippers, allowing for full opening, partial opening, or complete closure.

Like any tent, your Rooftop Tent will warm up during the day. To counteract this, all our Roof Tents have been designed with great airflow to help keep you cool during hot summer days. Our black-out fly also helps to reduce the internal temperature of our Roof tents through the light-diffusing coating.

Yes, but for no longer than 24-48 hours to stop mould build-up. When at home, open the tent and let it dry out.
